Fake it before you make it!
July 6, 2009
I decided to start acting like a skinny person. The idea is that if I act slimmer it will help me to become slimmer. Think of it as an extension of the “fake it until you make it” philosophy. Don’t worry, I plan to only use this technique in areas that might help me towards my goal. For example, I don’t plan to start shopping at the gap anytime soon. I’m not delusional enough to think I can force myself into a size 38 jeans by shear willpower.
So, I thought about the things that skinny people do and don’t do. For example, skinny people are less likely to spend time at the local buffet. So, I’ll pretend to be a skinny and do the same. Also, skinny people seem to do a lot of moving around – running, swimming and those sort of things. So, I decided to try running.
I’ve never been much of a runner. My friends in college and highschool would say I’m “build for comfort, not speed.” Like all my new endevors, I started my research by hitting Google. I found a article written just for the skinny wantabes like me. The Couch-to-5K Running Plan
I’ve been walking a lot the last few months. So, I was a bit ahead of the curve with this program. I’ve been following it for a couple weeks and I feel great. A few more weeks and I can call this an officialy good habbit. Also, I started looking for a locak 5K event to run this fall.

Inauguration Weigh In
January 20, 2009
I had to peel myself away from the TV today. I’m a bit of a news junkie. So, the inauguration was a bit more addictive to crack. I got myself back into the gym this week and kept up with my journal again.
I’m getting close to the 40 pound mark. I have a wedding later this year and I hope to be around 300. The latest season of “The Biggest Loser” started up a couple weeks ago. It’s both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it great to see others being successful. On the other, one of those guys lost 40 pounds is two weeks! I’m not saying I want to lose weight that fast. It’s just a bit of a kick in the nutz to see him accomplish in two weeks what took me 9 months!
Starting Weight: 385.4
This Week: 346.2
Difference: -1.2
Total: -39.2
Well, I lost a little steam during the holidays. However, I’m back in weight watcher meetings and hitting the gym. A group of us from WW have formed a team for Lighten Up Wisconsin.
Today is day 1. So, I figured I’d start by posting the before pictures! My weight as of 01/13/08 was 347.4 lbs.

Still on the wagon!
July 2, 2008
It’s a little over three months since I first started to lose the excess bulk. I’m down 35 pounds – including 3.4 pounds this last week. My clothes are fitting better and I feel great. I did catch myself sliding back into the old self-damaging routine of fast food, but I put a stop to that.
I’ve hit the gym hard the last couple weeks and got a chance to catch up with my old trainer. On a depressing note, I learned that he has been recalled to marines and is being sent back to Iraq. He was working out in preparation of the training he will get before heading overseas. I wish him luck and hope he takes care of himself.
Back on track

Whoohoo! Down 6.2 pounds at todays weigh-in. I worked out three times this week. I’ll be honest…the first day sucked. I was sore. The key seems to be to just keep moving. One you stop it’s harder to get going again.
